Kickin’ It with Kiz: If Broncos trade for Aaron Rodgers, would Bowlen kids laugh all the way to the bank?

I’m a longtime admirer of your work, Kiz! I’m a believer that the Bickering Bowlens will soon offer the Broncos for sale. How much more could they get if quarterback Aaron Rodgers were under contract here in Denver?

— Phil, Lone Tree

Kiz: The Broncos are currently valued at $3.2 billion, according to Forbes. Pat Bowlen bought the team for $78 million in 1984. Not a bad return on investment, eh?  And is it any wonder with that kind of loot on the line that the Bowlen kids might rather sell than sit back and let Brittany run the show? According to the accounting wizards here at Kickin’ It Headquarters, the Broncos will probably be worth at least $3.5 billion a year from now, whether Rodgers plays a snap in Denver or not. But should general manager George Paton find a way to persuade Green Bay to trade Rodgers, he would deserve a hefty pay raise!  Heck, we might even get the Bickering Bowlens to agree on that.

Kiz, I’m back in Wisconsin, and from what I’ve been hearing, Rodgers will not play for the Packers anymore. Wanted you to get an exclusive on that.

— Kevin, NFL soothsayer

Kiz: Duly noted. Have you sent Paton the same info?

Loved your insights on the leadership styles of Avs center Nathan MacKinnon vs. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and what it means for their teams’ championship potential. Well said and thanks.

— Bob, happy reader

Kiz: Jokic lifted an injury-riddled team to a first-round victory against Portland and was the primary reason Denver put up any fight against Phoenix. When the going got tough for the Avs against Vegas, MacKinnon disappeared. A Hart Trophy finalist doesn’t get a free pass.

Boo, Kiszla! Why are you so nasty when it comes to the Avs and MacKinnon in particular? Cut the kid a break, for crying out loud. To call MacKinnon a diva is out of line. He is the essence of a team player, consistently feeding the puck to teammates, playing with fierce competitiveness, and often being the one who sparks the rest of the team. He defends his team with guts and grit when need be, playing hard through injuries and truly being pleased for teammates’ success. You owe MacKinnon and the Avs an apology. How old are you anyway, Kiszla? Heck of a lot older than 25.

— Janet, has MacK’s back

Kiz: The kid you speak of is indeed 25 years old and a full-grown man, not to mention a center paid more than $6 million annually to play hockey. John Elway got criticism after Super Bowl losses early in his career as quarterback of the Broncos. If MacKinnon wants to be regarded as the best hockey player in the world and saluted as a Stanley Cup champion, no coddling will be allowed. Hugs maybe. But no coddling.

And today’s parting shot reminds me: I deserve a raise! Don’t we all?

It’s amazing Kiszla gets paid to comment on sports. It’s like the Baltimore Orioles paying injured first baseman Chris Davis $17 million a year to sit at home and watch baseball.

— Stephen, good with numbers
