Saturday coronavirus update: 54 new MN deaths, 2,543 new cases

The death toll in Minnesota from COVID-19 is up to 5,377 with 54 additional deaths reported Saturday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Saturday’s update is for data analyzed and reported as of Thursday. Because of the holiday, Friday’s data will be released along with Saturday’s data on Sunday.
The Health Department reported another 2,543 confirmed coronavirus infections, taking Minnesota’s total cases to 417,832. The actual number of infections likely is much higher as the data only represents those who have been tested for the virus, state officials say. The total number tested for the virus as of Saturday was 2,982,853.
Saturday’s reported deaths included individuals ranging in age from 45-49-years-old to an individual 100 years or older. Thirty-three of the 54 were from a long-term care or assisted-living facility.
Of the state’s 5,377 total deaths, 3,564 were long-term care or assisted living center residents.
HOW ARE PATIENTS DOING?
There were 398,199 patients as of Saturday who have recovered to the point where they no longer need to be isolated.
A total of 21,984 patients with COVID-19 have been hospitalized in Minnesota, with 4,638 of those having had to be admitted into the ICU.
WHO IS GETTING SICK?
Number of health care workers with COVID-19: 32,429.
The age group with the most infections remains 20-24-year-olds with 42,229 cases, closely followed by 25-29-year-olds with 37,305 cases.
The age group with the most deaths are 85-89-year-olds with 1,018 deaths, closely followed by 90-94-year-olds and 80-84-year-olds both with 878 deaths for each age group.Related Articles
