Patriots place LB Josh Uche and OLB Tashawn Bower on injured reserve

The Patriots placed linebackers Josh Uche and Tashawn Bower on injured reserve Thursday, ending their respective seasons.
Neither player finished last Monday’s loss to Buffalo. Uche suffered a foot injury, while Bower is dealing with a hurt neck. Both players missed practice Wednesday and Thursday.
Uche, a second-round rookie, finishes the season with one sack and nine tackles in nine game appearances. He made one start. The Michigan product was a healthy scratch to start the year, then battled injuries and finally made his NFL debut in Week 8 at Buffalo.
Pats coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday the team has a much better idea of what Uche’s role will be moving forward, after playing him at both inside and outside linebacker this season.
“Yeah, [we] like Josh. I think he’s done a lot of positive things for us in the kicking game and defensively has some versatility. We were kind of trying to figure that out early, what his best spot would be, and it took a little while for all that to materialize,” Belichick said before later adding: “He’s a good football player, and we’ll be able to define his role and his situation much better next year after a year of experience with him.
“So, I’m looking forward to that. He’s definitely going to be an asset for us and if he continues to work and improve, he’s got a good future.”
Bower appeared in seven games this season. He was promoted from the practice squad midseason and made his 2020 debut in Week 7 against the 49ers. He was later added to the active roster and totaled 11 tackles, including one tackle for loss, and a pass deflection.
Bower saw his most extension NFL action this year, after playing in seven games total over two years in Minnesota, where he started his career. He signed to the Patriots’ practice squad in 2019.
Linebackers Terez Hall and Anfernee Jennings also missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, and their statuses for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Jets are uncertain.
