Two teams that have been eliminated from the playoff race close out the season. The worst record in Mike Zimmer’s first six seasons as head coach was 7-9 in 2014, and the Vikings need to beat the Lions to match that.
The Vikings have beaten the Lions six straight times, including 34-20 on Nov. 8 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Detroit’s last win in the series came in Week 4 of the 2017 season.
Rookie receiver Justin Jefferson has 1,267 yards receiving for the Vikings, and needs 47 yards to top Randy Moss’ 1998 rookie team record of 1,313. Moss’ total is the third most in NFL history among rookies, following 1,473 by Houston’s Bill Groman in 1960 and 1,377 by Arizona’s Anquan Boldin 2003.
The Vikings are No. 6 in the NFL in total offense after ranking No. 16 last season. They are looking to finish in the top 10 for the first time since they were No. 5 in 2009.
Lions running back Adrian Peterson, 35, will face the Vikings for the fourth time since he starred for them from 2007-16, and it’s possible this could be his last NFL game. Peterson, who has 541 yards rushing this season, ran for 29 yards on eight carries last month at Minnesota.
