Christmas the time for a miracle of faith

She was not the smallest angel. That would be trite. She also was not the prettiest nor cutest, though it was clear that there was a bright light around her that made all of us say “awww.”
Her beauty was real, from within as well as from her countenance, and came straight from God.
All angels come straight from God, but the Bible generally refers to them as male. Remember the one who set the shepherds trembling as he stopped by one cold and starry evening to announce the birth of the Christ Child?
This angel came had a real, human mother who was in charge of a Living Nativity for her church, an annual event that opened at dusk in the weeks before Christmas and drew flocks of visitors. It was designed to portray holiness and, although, it was less than totally accurate, that it did.
The crowds were steady, except for about 20 minutes before 7 each night, phenomena not understood save by theory. Mine is that moms and dads were dressing the kiddies for the outing.
So when that gap came this first night of the tableau, the small angel, assigned to sit still and quiet under a spotlight on a lower limb of a tall tree, jumped from her perch.
She hopped over a low fence made of Christmas tree lights strung together to form a path, walked past group of shepherds huddled around a campfire, wended her away through the grazing wooden sheep and came to a twist in the path where visitors could see a bright star.
She passed by the beggar, resting on a bench so he could be ready to bug the visitors when they stopped again, and the tall soldier who would shoo him away.
She passed the facade of an inn, where all the windows were dark because the it was full of visitors who had come early and were asleep, resting from a long day’s trip. A sign over the front door said “Bethlehem Inn.”
Then she passed a manger, spotlighted on a woman holding a baby and a man standing guard with a shepherd’s crook.
She began skipping in her hurry to get to her destination, which was a circle of three old men, wise men who had come to see the newborn child.
She went to one of them and said, “Hi grandpa.”
“Hi kid, “ said the old man.
“I am the one who got you here tonight,” she said. “Mom was fretting because she needed one more wise man and I suggested you.”
The wise man was not a member of the church. He was a nonbeliever.
”You are out of the will,” he said.
“I am sooooooooo in the will,” said the angel.
The wise man returned to perform all the evenings left before Christmas. Then he started going to church.
