Another Massachusetts state representative tests positive for coronavirus

Another state representative has tested positive for coronavirus, according to an email House Speaker Robert DeLeo sent to his colleagues that was obtained by the Herald.
The representative, who DeLeo did not identify, was last at the State House on Dec. 1 — the day both chambers voted on a sweeping police reform bill.
That member did not report any recent close contact with House employees, DeLeo said.
“As such, based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there is no need to implement our COVID-19 response protocol at this time,” he wrote.
Several lawmakers and staffers on Beacon Hill have tested positive for COVID-19, in some cases prompting deep cleans of certain rooms at the State House.
State Sen. Walter Timilty, D-Milton, announced Thursday that he had tested positive for the virus.
“Early last week, while experiencing very minor symptoms and upon learning that I was in contact with an individual who later tested positive, I was tested for the virus,” and the results were positive, Timilty said in a statement.
“I am fortunate that my symptoms have been mild and I am able to recover within the comforts of my own home while continuing to work remotely,” he said. “I am cognizant, however, that many have a dramatically different experience.”
Timilty used his diagnosis as opportunity to urge people to “stay vigilant” in following public health guidelines as cases and hospitalizations climb.
“There is no doubt that we have a path forward through this pandemic and the vaccines that have been delivered this week offer us a glimmer of hope that a return to normalcy is on the horizon,” Timilty said. “We are not there yet however, and while some may feel the urge to let-up when it comes to precautions; I feel strongly that we must be more careful now than ever.”
